Complete Cash Flow Sheet guide

Plan cash flow and track accounts, funds, debts, assets and net worth.

1. Make your own copy

Get the free planner, then choose Copy to Google Sheets and confirm Make a copy in Google. No email is required on this website. A separate Download .xlsx option is also available, but Google Sheets is recommended because the Excel export does not support all asset-value calculations.

Replace the sample inputs in your copy and leave calculated cells intact.

2. Set up Portfolio

Under Accounts, enter Account Name and Opening Available Balance. Under Assets, enter the asset name, opening value, opening invested amount, target investment and target date.

Use opening amounts for the start of the month or period you will review. Current balances, invested amounts and investment targets are calculated.

3. Set up Watch

For each fund, select its linked account and enter Opening Saved, Target Amount and Target Date.

For each debt, enter its name, interest type, original amount, annual interest, opening amount and monthly payment. Interest is charged before the current month's payments.

4. Set up Plans

Choose your month and enter item names and Planned amounts under Income, Expenses, Savings, Debt Repayment and Investment.

Actual amounts come from matching Books transactions. Item names must match exactly. For income, Diff. is Actual minus Planned; for the other categories, it is Planned minus Actual.

5. Record transactions in Books

Add entries to Transaction Entries on the right side of Books. Enter positive amounts and complete the fields for the transaction type; Notes are optional.

Income uses To Account. Expense uses From Account. Savings uses From Account and Fund. Debt Payment uses From Account and Debt. Investment uses From Account and Asset.

Use a Value transaction with an Asset to update its Current Value. This does not affect cash flow or account balances. Under Others, use Transfer or reconciliation actions for movements that should not count as cash flow.

6. Review Dashboard

Set From, To and Currency. Cash flow totals the Income, Expense, Savings, Debt Payment and Investment entries within those dates. Transfers, reconciliations and Value entries are excluded.

Net worth is total cash plus asset values minus debt. Linked fund balances are counted once, and asset values use the latest Value entry on or before the To date.
